Anti-corruption campaigner, Vitus Azeem is pushing for an emergency meeting between the Special Prosecutor and the newly sworn in, Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkonoo to resolve what he terms legal hurdles impeding the work of the Office of the Special Prosecutor(OSP).
It follows the seeming tango between the OSP and former Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Commitee on Illegal Mining, Charles Bissue.
Mr Bissue on Thursday secured an injunction against the OSP prohibiting him from seeking further arrest warrant and publishing notices declaring him wanted.
Speaking to Starr FM, Vitus Azeem expressed grave concerns about the matter.
“The fact that the court has expressly placed injunction on the arrest, I don’t know whether he can still go ahead against the injunction and still arrest the person. But my worry is that if I commit a crime and police are coming after me, I can go to the court and get an injunction to prevent the police from arresting me. I think that is very unfortunate. Maybe it’s a serious crime let’s say murder, can I go to the court and get an injunction to prevent the police from arresting me? That is what is of grave concern to me in this particular matter.
“I think that the OSP needs to meet the new Chief Justice and other prosecuting bodies to have round-table discussions on some of these issues as to how best to collaborate and cooperate in executing its mandate to ensure that they all work in the national interest.”
