The Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has criticized his colleague, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, over his petition to the Speaker of Parliament seeking the removal of Abena Osei-Asare as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
In a Facebook post, Kennedy Osei Nyarko described A Plus’s petition as “ill-informed” and urged him to study parliamentary procedures before making such moves.
He said, “My colleague A Plus should take his time to learn the parliamentary rules and procedures properly.
He should know and understand that the Speaker has no powers to remove any Member of Parliament from any committee — not even the Leader of Government Business in the House has such powers.”
He further stated, “His petition to the Speaker to remove Hon. Abena Osei-Asare is dead on arrival. It’s only the leadership of the caucuses that can alter the membership of any committee through the Committee of Selection.”
The Akim Swedru MP added that if A Plus believes the PAC Chair has acted improperly, there are procedures to follow within the Standing Orders of Parliament.
This comes after A Plus, the MP for Gomoa Central, petitioned the Speaker of Parliament on November 3, 2025, to remove Abena Osei-Asare as PAC Chair, arguing that her dual role as Deputy Finance Minister and Committee Chair “undermines the spirit of accountability and transparency that Parliament stands for.”
He described her position as a “clear conflict of interest,” insisting that a Deputy Finance Minister cannot chair the committee responsible for scrutinizing the Finance Ministry’s accounts.
