Stakeholders have been proffering solutions to the water problems in the Northern part of the country.
Residents in some communities in that part of the country have been struggling to access potable water and in some instance sharing same water source with animals.
Speaking at a forum put together by GhOne TV following a documentary highlighting the deprivation in that part of the country, stakeholders took turns to offer solutions.
“The water problem in Nantom is a crisis,” the Member of Parliament for the area bemoaned at the forum.
Another stakeholder described the water situation in Northern Ghana as ghastly, saying “it is very disheartening and a common feature.”
The situations persist because successive governments did not treat access to safe water and sanitation as a major priority, added the stakeholder.
The stakeholder during his contribution on the matter stated that government for years underfunded the ministry responsible for ensuring greater access to safe water and sanitation “not even one-percent of GDP.”
On his part the Northern Regional Minister promised to summon all MMDCEs to a meeting with development partners aimed at addressing the water challenges.
According Salifu Saeed, government will prioritise the needs of the affected communities.
“I am eager to go back and assemble all the MMDCEs to fix challenges,” he told the forum saying, “these issues are key issues that affect the assemblies.”
