The Governing Council of the Star-Ghana Foundation has made changes to its leadership. The council at the 17th meeting elected Hajia Hamdiya Ismail as chairperson. Mrs. Adelaide Addo-Fening was also elected as Vice-Chairperson. The two will serve the Governing Council for a 4-year tenure starting 1st November 2024.
The duo takes over from Dr. Esther Ofei-Aboagye and Charles Akelyira Abugre who have served as Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson respectively of the Council since November 2018.
According to a statement from the foundation the “leadership transition is in accordance with the provisions of the Foundation’s constitution, which provides for a 5-year non-renewable tenure for the founding members of the GC and 4-year renewable (once) for subsequent members of the GC.”
The statement expressed appreciation to the immediate past leadership for their service.
“The Foundation places on record its immense gratitude and appreciation to Dr Ofei-Aboagye and Mr Abugre. They steered the complex and challenging transition of the organisation from a programme into a fully-fledged national organisation and provided the strategic direction that has enabled the Foundation to become, within the past 5 years, a respected member of the civil society community in Ghana and beyond and an active participant in Ghana’s development processes.”
“Both Hajia Hamdiya and Mrs Addo-Fening come into their positions with immense experiences that will stand the Foundation in the coming years. We congratulate them on their appointments and look forward to working with them to strengthen the capacities of the Foundation to fulfil its Mission,” the statement added.
