In a lively celebration of international unity, Starr FM, a branch of the EIB Network has brought together diplomats and athletes from various countries for its Diplomatic Games held on October 26, 2024, at the American International School Sports Complex in East Legon, Accra.
This landmark event, filled with sportsmanship and cultural exchange, transformed the venue into a hub of international unity and friendly competition. Supported by sponsors such as Sahara Rise and GoGurt, the event highlighted Starr FM’s commitment to fostering diplomacy and cultural understanding through sports.
Prominent diplomats including Maher Kheir, Lebanon’s Ambassador to Ghana; Hüseyin Güngör, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Ghana and Liberia; and H.E. Daniela D’orlandi, Italy’s Ambassador to Ghana and Togo, were in attendance.
Their participation underscored the global significance of the event and Starr FM’s role in promoting cross-border collaboration through sports.
The USA team emerged as the dominant force, winning several titles and embodying the spirit of the games. They claimed victory in the soccer tournament, with Kwaku Sheriff Yahaya recognized as Best Player.
Australia placed second, while Ghana secured third in a spirited display of athleticism. The USA also took the top spot in volleyball, with Ghana as runner-up in a close match.
Türkiye shined in the Ladies’ Penalty Shootout, securing first place over Ghana. Ghana’s Daniel Apetorgbor won the Lime & Spoon race, adding a playful touch to the competition, while Gabriel Daniel also earned local cheers with his victory in the Sack Race. Ethiopia’s Sarah Yeebiyo took the Tennis Singles title, and the USA’s Faith and John Scicchitano won the Tennis Doubles, capping off a remarkable performance for the American team.
The Diplomatic Games went beyond the sports field. With October being a breast cancer awareness month, the Accra Medical Centre was present with seasoned health professionals to offer breast screenings. The event also provided a platform for attendees to network.
As the event concluded, diplomats and athletes departed with a renewed sense of unity, leaving behind a legacy of friendship and collaboration built through the universal language of sports. #StarrAt10 Diplomatic Games affirmed the idea that by competing together, nations can create strong foundations for cooperation and respect on the global stage.
