Leading Member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah has predicted that he foresees a divided government, with the parliament having a majority from one party and a president from another party.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, announced the indefinite adjournment of parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday, October 22.
This announcement follows exchanges between lawmakers from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding which caucus holds the Majority.
Speaker Bagbin when announcing the adjournment disclosed that he had received a communication from the Supreme Court directing him to stay his earlier ruling, which had declared four parliamentary seats vacant.
In an interview on Starr FM Weekly Review Segment with Naa Dedei Tettey, Lawyer Jantuah weighed in on the recent unrest in Parliament which eventually led to the Speaker of Parliament adjourning Parliament indefinitely.
He remarked that he sees a future parliament with the president from one party and the parliament majority in another. He also emphasized the need to quickly address the issues that parliament faces.
“Ghanaians have become very sophisticated in their voting and for me, the ballot box is where to decide. What happened in 2008? Everybody said that Akufo-Addo was winning this election hands down. What happened? Did he win? Ghanaians have become very sophisticated. I foresee a parliament with a majority in one party and a president from another party in this election. I foresee it, especially if parliament does not quickly solve this matter. Gradually, Ghanaians are getting fed up with this matter, and you know Ghanaians, they won’t talk but they will show you in the ballot box”, he stated.
He continued, “Don’t take Ghanaians for granted, that is what politicians are doing. Don’t take Ghanaians for granted, they are watching and now they believe, they do not want a coup. They know the power of the thumb, and they are prepared to wait four years. Unfortunately, the NPP has not been able to address the challenges and the things that have happened in their tenure that have gone against this country.”
Mr. Jantuah, further stated that, though the National Patriotic Party had made remarkable exploits during their tenure of government, their lack of communication skills has hindered public awareness of their exploits, especially concerning stem education.
