Participants at the final edition of the 2017 Starr Woman project have been urged to be positive in their thinking, love themselves, be focused and never allow what people say about them affect them.

“The Story Telling Edition” of the Starr Woman Project came off Friday night at the Swiss Spirit Alisa Hotel in Accra amidst pump and pageantry.

It followed three successful life-coaching journeys from Accra to Kumasi and Takoradi on litany of topics including; ‘Becoming a Brand,’ ‘Windows of Opportunity’ and ‘Financial Independence.’

Spearheaded by Starr 103.5FM and supported by Live91.9FM, GHOneTV and  Daily Heritage, the ‘Story Telling’ edition of the  Starr Woman project was sponsored by Access ‘W’ Initiative; Marie Stopes International, Mutual Integrity and Webster University.

The Starr Woman project which is an extension of ‘The Zone’ and aimed at equipping young women entrepreneurs with the relevant knowledge, skills and motivation to achieve their fullest potential assembled three outstanding women to share their stories with the patrons, numbering over 200.

Motivation Speaker and Philanthropist, Obuobia Darko-Opoku

They are; Motivation Speaker and Philanthropist, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, CEO of Stratcomm Africa, Esther Cobbah and CEO of Allure Africa Group, Dzigbordi K. Dosoo.

Ms Darko-Opoku who took the floor first to tell her story, narrated of her painful divorce and how she battled all odds to be where she is today.

“The beginning is so difficult,” she recollects. “Sometimes I step out and people think life has been rosy. There is more to it. There is pain and sometimes you just feel you have to end it all. That is where you know who your real lovers are,” the former broadcaster told the patrons.

Ms Opoku-Darko also told of her unsuccessful attempts to represent the people of Weija-Gbawe in Ghana’s parliament in 2012 and 2016, warning: “Not everybody who cheers you is your supporter. That’s how the…elections ended with those who worked with you blaming you for the loss forgetting that they were part of the team.”

“In life you will meet many people. But sometimes, you don’t need many people. We just need one quality person and that quality person can change your situation forever. Even when that person dies whatever, it is that he did for you in your time of want still that will live on,” she said.

Cross section of the participants

Proud of how she surmounted the sourness she experienced years earlier, the Motivational speaker cum philanthropist declared that no one or failure can take away her passion for development.

“No matter what your challenges are it is not the end of your life. It is simply preparing you for the bigger success. So learn to celebrate yourselves. It will go a long way to re-write the script,” she admonished.

CEO of Allure Africa Group, Dzigbordi K. Dosoo

On her part, the CEO of Allure Africa Group, Dzigbordi K. Dosoo urged the participants to cultivate the habit of telling their own various stories.

“Sometimes it is not about your story but the stories. There are many broken pieces in this room and many are here so that they can learn more. Be raw and naked in telling your stories. It is not the triumph that will show how you will become but rather the journey,” she stated.

She continued, “Your untold, unknown and unsung stories need to be heard. Whatever, the painful story maybe, put it on the wall and make it a masterpiece.”

CEO of Stratcomm Africa, Esther Cobbah

The third and final story teller, the CEO of Stratcomm Africa, Esther Cobbah told the participants to persevere in whatever they do stressing: “I want to tell you that nobody can truncate your destiny.  Your destiny can never be changed.”

“Don’t allow any situation that you encounter to put you down. Women, you can be the designers of your own environment from which you will shine. You can blame other people all the time…blame and blame and complain and find that it doesn’t take you anywhere,” she urged.

So much excitement at the Story Telling edition of Starr Woman project 2017
