Police in the Western Region have rescued a 15-year-old Nigerian girl who was trafficked into Ghana for sexual exploitation.
In a statement on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the Western Central Regional Police Command said officers from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Tarkwa carried out the rescue operation after a report from the victim’s father in Nigeria.
According to police investigations, the victim was lured from Enugu to Lagos by one Golden Blessing, who promised her a cleaning job.
Blessing later handed her over to 25-year-old Joy Ogbonna, who transported her to Tarkwa.
Upon arrival, Ogbonna allegedly confined the girl in a room and “forced her into sex work and collected the proceeds.”
Police said the teenager managed to contact her father “through the intervention of a helpful passerby,” which led to her rescue.
A subsequent medical report confirmed that the victim is five weeks pregnant.
“The suspect, Joy Ogbonna, is currently in police custody and will be arraigned before court soon. Efforts are ongoing to arrest her accomplice, Golden Blessing, who is believed to be in Nigeria,” the statement added.
The Western Central Regional Police Command has commended the public for their role in helping to rescue the victim and pledged its continued commitment to protecting vulnerable persons.
