The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a truck loaded with more than 3,000 slabs of substances suspected to be cannabis and arrested two men for attempting to bribe officers with GH¢150,000 to secure the release of the vehicle and its contents.

In a statement on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, the police said the interception was carried out on February 15 at about 12:10am through an intelligence-led operation by officers of the Regional Patrols Unit.

The command said a Sinotruck Tipper Truck, with registration number GN 993-14, was stopped at Sege Akpla Manya in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the police, the vehicle was loaded with fertiliser sacks which, upon inspection, were found to be concealing “a total of 3009 slabs of plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs (cannabis).”

The police said the driver abandoned the truck and fled after sighting officers. The truck and its contents have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Headquarters as investigations continue.

“Efforts are ongoing to arrest the driver and verify the ownership of the vehicle,” the statement added.

In a related development, the police said two suspects – Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35 – were arrested on February 16 at about 7:10pm after attempting to bribe officers at the Regional CID Office in Tema.

The suspects, according to the statement, offered “a cash sum of GHS 150,000.00” in an attempt to influence officers to release the truck and the suspected narcotics.

The police said the money has been retrieved and kept as an exhibit.

The two suspects remain in custody and were expected to be arraigned before court on February 18.

The Tema Regional Police Command said it remains committed to combating narcotics-related offences and maintaining integrity in its operations.
