Trump Issues Travel Ban on Citizens from 12 Countries Over Security Concerns

American President, Donald Trump on Wednesday evening issued a travel ban on citizens from twelve countries over security concerns to the United States.

In a video posted by the White House on X, the president said the move was necessary to counter looming threats to the country.

It is the second time President Trump has issued a travel ban after declaring a similar order in 2017 during his first term in the White House.

“We cannot have open migration from any country where we cannot safely and reliably vet and screen… That is why today I am signing a new executive order placing travel restrictions on countries including Yemen, Somalia, Haiti, Libya, and numerous others,” the US president said.

The ban targets nationals of Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Eritrea.

The others are Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

President Trump noted that nationals from the affected countries had come to the United States to visit only to overstay their welcome.

The proclamation signed by the president makes exceptions for lawful permanent residents from the affected countries presently in the country and specifically designated persons who have dual citizenship.

Trump’s order also permits citizens from the targeted countries from traveling to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup subject to the Secretary of State’s permission.

This is the latest in a series of measures the Trump administration has taken to tackle the scourge of illegal immigration in America.
