TTH attackers not Kandahar Boys – Sammy Awuku

The New Patriotic Party has distanced itself from the invasion of the Tamale Teaching Hospital in the Northern region by some thugs suspected to be members of the party but insists the attack was not carried out by members of the vigilante group, the Kandahar Boys .

National Organizer Sammy Awuku speaking on Starr Chat Wednesday told host Bola Ray that although the suspects are sympathetic to the NPP they are not members of the dreaded Kandahar boys.

He, however, added that no one arrested will be shielded.

“The Boys are sympathetic to the NPP but they are not Kandahar Boys. One of them speaks for the NPP, he is a member of the communications team in the region and then the Party has subsequently suspended him for his role in it.

“It’s a reprehensible act…and that is why we have stated that when you fall foul of the law, if you are acting in the spirit of the party, you must be prepared to listen to reason and no one will be shielded, not at all.”

The comments of the National Organiser contradicts claims by the regional minister Salifu Saeed who stated that the boys who attacked the hospital CEO are members of the Kandahar vigilante group.

Four suspects who were arrested in connection with the chaos at the Tamale Teaching Hospital have been released by the Police.

The police, according to Starr News’ Northern regional correspondent Eliasu Tanko, conducted screening Thursday morning upon which the suspects were released.

Tanko said hospital officials failed to connect any of the suspects to the crime where the CEO of the hospital Dr David Zaawumya Kolbila was locked out.

The spokesperson of the notorious vigilante group Kandahar Boys – which is linked to the ruling NPP – Mohammed Samsodeen told Francis Abban on Morning Starr they welcome the development after accusing the police of arresting “innocent” persons.

Meanwhile, doctors, nurses and Midwives at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) have laid down their tools following the invasion of the facility by a vigilante group.

Dr Kolbila has since been reinstated by the Northern Regional Security Council led by the Minister Salifu Saeed with a promise to beef up security at the hospital to prevent the perennial disturbances instigated by party foot soldiers.
