The University of Ghana is set to expand its student accommodation with a 10,000-capacity hostel, following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Singapore during President John Dramani Mahama’s state visit.
The agreement forms part of broader initiatives to strengthen infrastructure and investment ties between Ghana and Singapore.
Several MoUs were signed during the visit, covering a range of projects including prefabricated and affordable housing by Rock Africa, Robin Village Development, the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), and Uni Premier.
Rock Africa and Ascent also agreed to supply mass flow meters and tracking solutions, while a collaboration with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) will oversee the design and construction of a new oil jetty in Ghana.
Additional agreements include advanced airport security systems between Rock Africa and Ascent Solutions, and partnerships with the Ministry of Roads and Highways and Pan United for road and pavement materials testing and construction projects.
A letter of intent was also signed for the redevelopment of a high-quality mixed-use project in Accra to international standards.
President Mahama emphasized that his approach extends beyond diplomacy to fostering trade and investment, encouraging stronger economic partnerships between Africa and Asia, with Singapore at the forefront.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa confirmed that the President has directed the establishment of a Ghanaian consulate in Singapore to strengthen bilateral ties and extended an invitation for Singapore to open a reciprocal mission in Ghana.
