The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has retrieved the lifeless body of an unidentified man from a drainage channel at Asylum Down in Accra.
According to GNFS in a Facebook post, the incident occurred on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, when the GNFS Fire Master Control received a distress call at about 06:18 hours, reporting a body in a drain feeding into the Odaw River, opposite the Iran Clinic.
A rescue team from the Circle Fire Station was immediately dispatched at 06:19 hours and arrived at the scene at 06:25 hours. The operation was led by ADO I Richard Helegbe, who oversaw the successful recovery of the body.
The deceased, believed to be in his late 20s, was retrieved from the drainage channel and handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigations.
Authorities have not yet established the identity of the deceased, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
