The Municipal Chief Executive for the Ketu South Municipal Assembly, Hon. Elliot Edem Agbenorwu, has commissioned and handed over new classroom blocks to the students and staffs of Nogokpo, Glitame, Agavedzi basic schools and the St. Paul’s Senior High School in Denu, to reduce infrastructure challenges facing the schools.

On Thursday, a 6-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities including an ICT laboratory, library and four-seater water closet toilet was handed over to the Nogokpo basic school.

The project which was initiated by the erstwhile NDC government in 2016, was funded through GETFund at a cost of GH¢345,000.00

The Agavedzi basic school also got a 3-unit classroom block, with ancillary facilities and a 6-seater water closet toilet at a cost of GH¢252,000.00, funded through the District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT).

The St. Paul’s Senior High School (SPACO) in Denu, also had a 3-unit classroom block, funded through GETFund at a cost of 375,000.00.

The MCE, Mr. Elliot Edem Agbenorwu said, the completion of these projects within a record time, is an exhibition of the commitment and priority, the Nana Addo led administration has placed on education.

“It is said that education is the bedrock for the development of any nation, because it opens doors of opportunities for its citizens and it’s largely perceived as an indispensable tool, which will not only assist in meeting the nation’s social, political, moral, cultural and economic aspirations but will also inculcate in the individual, the knowledge, dexterity, skills, character and desirable values that will foster national development and self-actualization,” he noted.

He added “if you can identify with the above statement, then you would believe that the NPP government, wants the best for our children and that’s why it placed education as one of its uttermost priorities.”

He stressed further that the municipality has seen a commendable increase in the numbers accessing formal education as a result of government’s Free SHS intervention policy.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Glitame basic school was also handed a 3-unit classroom block, with ancillary facilities and a 2-seater KVIP toilet to put an end to the tendency of teaching and learning under trees, which hitherto, was the phenomenon.

Headteacher of the school, Marvelous Degbor, thanked the MCE and the government for the timely intervention saying, the lack of classrooms compelled classes to be combined, while teaching and learning went on under sheds and in the open.

“Teaching and learning in the school has been difficult. Though we made several calls for help, nothing changed, but when this new government came, we approached the Assembly and we got 40 desks earlier and now, this new block. These will help the school to improve upon its academic work”.

The MCE charged authorities of the schools to maintain the facility and make good use of it to the benefit of the school children.

He urged them to plant trees as wind breaks and for beautification on the campuses.
