The Electoral Commission(EC) says it will maintain the original ballot paper order for the upcoming 2024 presidential election, despite the disqualification of Philip Appiah Kubi, presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).
The Ghana Freedom Party chose Philip Appiah Kubi to replace Akua Donkor, the party’s founder and presidential candidate, who sadly passed away on Monday, October 28. However, the EC has disqualified Philip Appiah Kubi from contesting in the upcoming elections due to illegalities and a number of errors detected on his nomination forms.
The EC chairperson, Jean Mensa made this announcement at the Inter-Party Advisory Meeting (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, November 12, marking a crucial step in the preparations for the upcoming elections.
Madam Jean Mensa assured that the EC is fully committed to ensuring a seamless and timely election process and that the disqualification of Ghana Freedom Party’s (GFP) candidate will not alter the ballot structure.
Speaking to representatives from the various parties, Madam Mensa disclosed that the printing of presidential ballots is 90% complete, emphasizing the EC’s commitment to meeting deadlines.
Madam Mensa further noted that the EC’s preparations are on track, ensuring that election materials will be ready ahead of election day.
“This morning, we are here to inform you of the Commission’s decision to maintain the presidential ballot as it is. As you may be aware since you have representatives in the printing houses, we are almost 90 percent complete with the printing of presidential ballots”, the EC Chairperson stated.
The EC further highlighted that maintaining the current ballot arrangement would help the EC avoid potential disruptions and mitigate logistical issues that would arise from making changes at this stage.
