Two of Ghana’s major telecommunication networks – Vodafone and Tigo – joined other stakeholders to mark Safer Internet Day 2017 celebration in Ghana Tuesday.
The day was marked by route matches, fora and awareness sessions with school children across the country.
The stakeholders which include Civil society and government discussed a number of issues regarding their roles in ensuring internet safety for all.
The chairman for the forum Nene Nagai Kasa VIII Chief of Agormeda who is also the Chairman for the National Child Online Protection Committee lauded the move by the SID2017 partners and urged them to do more for the children and young people of Ghana.
The events took place in five other regions of Ghana and was sponsored by World Vision International, Ghana, Facebook, Tigo Ghana, Vodafone, Media Foundation for West Africa, Department of Children and Open Learning. Collaborators for the event were: Ghana Computer Emergency Response Team, Telecom University, WILDAF Ghana, Ghana Education Service and some media houses.
The campaign, which is being championed by J Initiative, was also used to launch a child protection tutorial kit – Keeping Children Safe Online (KCSO).
“We are happy to have the day in Ghana. It goes to concretize our efforts over the years, having two giants on board means we can speak the same language when it comes to the protection of children and young people in Ghana,” J Initiative said in a statement.
