A Non-Governmental Organisation, Volta College (VC) operating in the Volta region has donated teaching and learning materials to the Three Kings Special School for the blind located at Adidome in the the Volta region.
At a short ceremony held to present the items to the school, 2nd Vice Chairman of the group, Mac-Thompson Gbeti noted that the donation is in line with their commitment to give back to society.
“This donation forms part of the association’s initiative to give back to society. We believe all of us matter and must contribute to our development at all levels -most especially, within the Volta region where we operate” he noted.
He further indicated that the group had made similar donations to some orphanages, schools and prisons in the region.
The items donated also include assorted food, toiletries and bags of water and detergents.
Receiving the items, the Headmaster of the school, Mr. Victor Bobison said the special school’s population has increased since its establishment in 2002 from 5 to 35 students with 6 teaching and 4 non-teaching staff.
According to him, the increment meant that the school’s needs have further shot up.
He said, “we lack computers for teaching and learning ICT. We can’t use the braille because all the computers which power the braille are broken down.”
The DCE for Central Tongu, Thomas Moore Zonyrah commended the group for the initiative and further urged NGOs in the region to strengthen their commitment towards the core development objectives.
