Volta My Pride Association (VMPA) is expected to make a donation to the deprived school in Lawoashime in Keta Municipality.

VOLTA MY PRIDE ASSOCIATION is a registered association as a nongovernmental organization to help donate to the less privileged people in Volta and Oti regions.

Co-Founder of My Pride Association, Reubenson Mawuli said the group has made donations for the past years to Hohoe Vedeme – Volta Home orphanage, Ho central prison and female prison.

Mr. Mawuli further stated that this year the Association decided to move to the southern part of Volta, did a little research on some schools and came across a deprived school in Lawoashime in Keta Municipality.

A delegate from the Association led by the Planning Committee Chair for VMP, Mr. Adukonu Wonder visited Lawoashime and narrated the situation the pupils and teachers were in.

He described the situation as sad.

“The town is an island so you cannot escape going to the school without crossing some water bodies, bushes or muddy paths at one or more points. Lawoshime D/A Basic School has its pupils from four neighboring towns namely Mamime, Songe, Hagodzi, Lawoshime and sometimes Hatorgodo). Pupils from all these towns have to cross rivers or muddy paths before getting to the school.

“The condition of the school structures are not the best. The JHS block has no doors and windows; neither are the clay floors cemented. There is one volunteer teacher who is not on salary,” Mr. Adukonu disclosed in a report to VMPA.

He continued: “Due to unavailable classrooms, class one and two are combined, three and four combined, and five and six also combined. There are no classrooms for Kindergarten. They only mingle with class one and two.”

According to him, the total population of the is about 270, Kg -62, Primary -157 and the Junior High School is 51.

He also disclosed that some of the pupils do not have uniforms, reading and learning materials, adding that payment of exams fees is a major headache for them.

“I was introduced to about six young girls who come from an adjourning town who have to cross a river before coming to school. A very sad situation. Sometimes, the dad has to carry them on his shoulder one after the other to cross the river to school,” he narrated.
