Ghana’s Black Starlets played out a goalless draw game with Niger in their opening match of the WAFU U17 Championship.
Ghana could not grab a win despite enjoying a lion share of possession in the first 45minutes of the game.
Midfielder Frimpong Eugene Adjei fluffed an opportunity to put Ghana in front before half time when he blew his penalty over the bar.
A foul in the box by a Nigerien defender saw the center referee awarding a Ghana a penalty.
Frimpong could not make use of the chance awarded to the Black Starlets as he shot off target to keep Niger in the game.
Niger who needed victory to progress to the next round after drawing 0-0 with Togo in their opening match took over the second period of the game.
The host dominated but could not find the back of the net as the two sides shared the spoils.
The Black Starlets will now take on Togo in their next game on Friday.
