Coach of the National Amputee football team, Richard Steven Obeng, has revealed the team bought its jerseys used at the African Amputee Cup of nations (AAFCON) at Kantamanto Market in Accra.
This revelation comes in the wake of the demand by Ghana’s Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif on officials of the team to account for all monies received via donations from individuals after arriving in the country from Egypt.
Reacting to the ministers’ demand in an interview with Starr FM, Richard Obeng said the team barely gets the required support, so
rely hugely on donations from institutions and individuals to prepare for championships. He revealed the team had to purchase their Jerseys from Kantamanto market for the African Championship in Egypt.
“We got our jerseys from Kantamanto for the 2024 AAFCON,” he said.
“The ministry of Sports only paid for the flight to and from Egypt and paid for the competition fees. All other cost was on us,” he added.
The Black Challenge team successfully defended its AAFCON title when they defeated Morocco in a thrilling final in Cairo to lift the coveted trophy.
Former President John Mahama donated an amount of ten thousand dollars to the team when they paid him a courtesy call.
