We’ll criticize constructively – Minority

The Minority in Ghana’s seventh parliament under the Fourth Republic will subject the Nana Akufo-Addo administration to constructive scrutiny, the incoming deputy minority leader, James Klutse Avedzi has assured.

“We won’t just be in the house to oppose anything that is brought home for deliberations,” he told Morning Starr on Friday.

According to him, the outgoing National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration considers the interest of Ghanaians before tabling any policy document before the House and that the party in opposition will not shirk that responsibility.

“The NDC coming into opposition will continue the same approach that whatever the incoming government will bring to the House will be analyzed with the same set of lenses to ensure that; is it  in the interest of the majority of the people of this country, is it in the interest of Ghanaians? If it is in the interest of Ghanaians we’ll support it and ensure that those policies are carried,” Mr. Avedzi, who is the Member of Parliament for Ketu-North, told Bernard Nasara Saibu sit-in host of Morning Starr.

Letter and spirit

The incoming minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu vowed Thursday they will endevour to subject the Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party administration to strenuous scrutiny to the “letter and spirit” of the pledges he made to Ghanaians during the electioneering.

Also, he said they will “endeavor to hold the strong values and philosophies of the NDC and demonstrate to the Ghanaian [populace] our policy options and where necessary offer criticism” in order to put the incoming administration on its toes.

“But you can be certain…that we’ll hold the new administration to the letter and spirit of whatever they campaigned on,” he told Joy FM on Thursday.

Defending NDC’s record

The outgoing minister of labour added that apart from holding the Akufo-Addo government strictly to its promises, they will also strenuously defend the legacy of the outgoing Mahama administration.

“We are proud of our records. We are proud of many of the interventions as much as we respect the sovereign will of the Ghanaian people. They know better why they wanted us to be on the opposite side of the House,” he said.

Mr. Iddrisu was named as the leader for the minority side in the next parliament on Thursday.

According to Starrfmonline.com sources, the 46-year-old lawyer will be deputized by the MP for Ketu North, James Klutse Avedzi.
