The acting Chief Executive Officer of the Food and Drugs Authority Delese Mimi Darko has stated that her outfit is no longer at loggerheads with the Ghana Standards Authority.
The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) have in the past clashed over which regulatory body has the mandate to regulate food and drugs in the country.
While the GSA claims to have the mandate to regulate and inspect all high risk products in the country, which include food and drugs, the FDA on the other hand has vehemently refuted that claim, explaining that there are 17 high risk products in the country but the GSA has the mandate to regulate 15 of them, minus food and drugs.
Answering questions before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee Monday, Mrs. Mimi Darko stated that the FDA has resolved all issues with GSA.
According to her, the two bodies collaborate very well adding that plans are in place to strengthen that relationship.
“We collaborate very well…they [GSA] are represented on our governing board and we collaborate well and we are even going to collaborate better.
“I stand on authority to say that we are not fighting over issues [anymore],” Mrs. Mimi Darko told the committee.
