One person has been arrested in connection with a violent gold shop robbery in the Mpohor District of the Western Region that left a 43-year-old man injured on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
Police, in a statement dated Sunday, August 17 say the suspect is assisting with investigations as a manhunt intensifies for about eight others believed to be part of the armed gang.
The group, reportedly masked and armed with pump-action guns, stormed two gold-buying shops around 7:30 p.m., escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash and quantities of gold.
During the attack, the robbers shot and injured Eric Kwofie, who is currently responding to treatment.
Superintendent Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Head of Public Affairs for the Western Region, assured the public that the remaining suspects will be tracked down and prosecuted.
“One suspect has been picked and is assisting in the investigation, whilst strenuous efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects. The injured victim is responding to treatment. We would like to assure the public that the perpetrators will be arrested and be made to face justice.”
Police have urged the public to provide credible information to help bring all suspects to justice.
