Zoomlion Ghana Limited has clarified that its contract with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) under the Street Sweeping Programme was not cancelled or terminated by the government, but rather reached its natural expiration.
In a statement released on the heels of media reports and a letter from the Office of the President dated June 11, 2025, Zoomlion stated that the contract, originally set to end in March 2024, was granted a six-month extension and officially expired in September 2024.
The company’s clarification follows a petition by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, which led to the Presidency confirming that the contract would not be renewed. Government has since announced that subsequent sanitation contracts will be awarded through competitive tendering.

“Zoomlion wishes to clarify the following for the general public, media, and all stakeholders about information circulating in the public domain concerning its contracts,” the statement read. “This addresses a letter from the Office of the President dated June 11, 2025, regarding our expired contract with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).”
“Contract Simply Reached Natural Expiration: The YEA contract mentioned in the circulating letter related solely to the Street Sweeping Programme, originally set to expire in March 2024, but granted a six-month extension, thereby establishing its new expiration date as September 2024.”
Zoomlion further emphasised its support for the government’s commitment to competitive procurement processes and expressed readiness to participate in any future bidding opportunities.
