A 13-year-old pupil of Tema Parents Association School, Albert Nii Sackey Quarcoopome, has made Ghana proud by winning a merit award in the 37th Annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest.

His outstanding artwork, which conveys a powerful message of peace, unity and harmony, was selected among thousands of entries from across the world.

The Lions International Peace Poster Contest, organized by Lions Clubs International, has been running for over three decades, giving young artists aged 11 to 13 the opportunity to creatively express their vision of peace. This year’s theme, Peace Without Limits, encouraged children to depict the boundless possibilities of a peaceful world through their artistic talents.

Albert’s artwork was sponsored by the Tema Gentlewomen Lions Club, which is part of the larger District 418 Ghana. The district actively participated in the contest, urging its 48 clubs to engage with schools in their communities and encourage young students to submit their entries. After being evaluated at the club, district, and multiple district levels, Albert’s piece was selected for its exceptional creativity, originality, and interpretation of the theme.

With approximately 600,000 children from 65 countries participating, the competition was fierce. Despite this, Albert’s entry stood out, earning him a place among the 23 merit award winners. These winners come from different parts of the world, including China, Croatia, Czech Republic, East Jerusalem, Ecuador, Germany, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Romania, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, and the United States (Hawaii and New Hampshire). His achievement highlights Ghana’s talent on the international stage and brings honor to the country’s artistic community.

The Peace Poster Chairperson for District 418 Ghana, Lion Kwabena Appiah, emphasized the importance of the contest in inspiring young minds. He encouraged more schools to establish art centers to nurture creativity and give students the opportunity to participate in such global competitions. According to him, platforms like this help instill a sense of peace and unity in young people while allowing them to develop their artistic skills.

Speaking to GHOne News, Albert shared his excitement and passion for peace, stating that his goal is to see a world where people live together in harmony, free from conflict and discrimination. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to use his artistic abilities to advocate for peace on a global scale.

Albert’s parents, Mr. Yung Albert Quarcoopome and Mrs. Gifty Quarcoopome, also expressed their pride and joy over their son’s achievement. They thanked the Lions Club for providing such a prestigious platform for young artists to showcase their talents. They also urged other parents to encourage their children to take part in such activities that promote both creativity and positive values.

Albert’s recognition in the global contest not only brings pride to his school and community but also serves as an inspiration for other young Ghanaian artists.

His success demonstrates the power of art in shaping conversations around peace and unity. With continued support from organizations like the Lions Club, more young talents in Ghana can be nurtured and given opportunities to shine on the international stage.
