Akuapem Ridge Development Corporation (ARIDCOP), a subsidiary of Reigning International Capital Holdings Limited, a Ghanaian investment holding is to construct a 50 megawatts solar farm at Kwamoso in the Akuapem North Municipality.
The project which is a joint venture between ARIDCOP and Akropong Municipal Assembly is expected to commence in July 2018 and would be in two phases; the first phase which will see the construction of 25 megewatts and the second phase will see another 25 megawatts.
According to ARIDCOP, the solar farm is part of the company’s objective to bring various developmental projects in the area with the aim of making it the first truly eco city in Ghana on the Akuapem Ridge.
Reigning International Capital Holdings Limited which is also based in Australia is seed funding the project.
Last week, a team of inspectors from Ophie Power LLC, a solar technology company from the Netherlands who are also partners for the project, were in Ghana to inspect the lands earmarked for the project.
The team was impressed with the lands that have been allocated for the project, while Mr Dennis Edward Aboagye, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akuapim North Municipal Assembly was delighted that such a project was coming to his municipality.
ARIDCOP in the later part of the year signed a partnership agreement with the Akropong Municipal Assembly as a private development partner. ARIDCOP is expected to drive investments into the municipal in the areas of infrastructure, housing, renewable energy, light industry, tourism, health and institution of higher learning.
ARIDCOP has plans of expanding the project in order to off load some of the power it will generate to GRIDCo.
