At least 32 persons including 15 Sunday School children have been left in critical conditions after some buildings caved in following a rainstorm at Agona Swedru in the Agona West district of the Central region, Sunday.
The Sunday School children of the Voice of the Lord Church were trapped in the collapsed building until officers of the Fire Service and the police stepped in to rescue them.
They are on admission at the Agona Swedru Government Hospital and Lins Clinic.
Several other houses also had their roofs ripped off with some collapsing completely injuring the occupants during the rainstorm.
According to Starr News’ Central Regional correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour, the entire township has been plunged into darkness as a lot of cables and electrical poles were brought down by the rainstorm.
The Agona Swedru District Police Commander Superintendent Kwesi Yerenkyi said the situation is under control and the police are working to protect lives and properties.
