The Seventy-eight Students from Premier Remedial School in Koforidua Zongo disallowed from taking part in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination have gone on rampage and destroyed school properties.
The students shit-bombed the teachers office in protest against their inability to write the exams.
The students were on Monday turned away from the Akyem Kwarbeng Senior High School Exams center in the Atiwa District because their registrations were not successful after they had paid about Ghc1, 000 of various fees including the BECE registration Fees.
Out of the 115 students who were to be registered, only 45 were successful.
The situation triggered the anger of the affected students and some parents who trooped to the center to cause commotion on Monday, it took the intervention of the Police to calm nerves by arresting two teachers of Premier Remedial School identified as Moro and Lord while the Atiwa District Education Director identified as Mr. Ampofo is also assisting in investigating the incident after he was accused of receiving the registration fees of the affected students.
The case has since been transferred to the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters where the Atiwa District Director of Education has been asked to refund the registration fees of the affected students totalling about Ghc6, 900.
However, the infuriated students have gone on rampage to destroy properties of the school, torn apart registers, receipt books, destroyed desks, smashed windows and shit-bombed the teachers office.
Close the Remedial School
Some residents who live around the Premier Remedial School, are calling on the Ghana Education Service to shut down the school over misconduct of some of its teachers who allegedly smoke weed on school premises, subject the students into inhumane treatments and use several means to extort from the students.
“For me, I have been fighting the so called teachers here, they smoke wee on campus, the inhumanely maltreat the students in the name of punishment.
“Even students are made to buy cement if they absent themselves. If you absent yourself for a day, you buy one bag of cement, two days two bags of cement, GES must shut down this so called remedial school.” A resident told Starr News’ Eastern regional correspondent.
