The minister of communications Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has toured some centres in the Western region training girls in ICT.
The visit is ahead of the 2019 Girls in ICT celebration to be held on May 27.
The programme forms part of the International Telecommunications Union’s (ITU) initiative to encourage and empower girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing field of ICTs, enabling both girls and technology companies to reap the benefits of greater female participation in the ICT sector.
Girls in ICT 2019 programme is being hosted in the Western region in 17 centres for 560 JHS students from nine districts.
The students are being trained in coding, using tools like CSS, HTML among others.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful visited Baidoo Bonsoe SHS, Asankrangua CIC, Asankrangua SHS, Asankrangua Technical School and Ketan CIC.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful, who doubles as the MP for Ablekuma West, also visited the Asankrangua stool house to interact with the traditional leaders and shared with them government’s intentions to transform the nation digitally.
