Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah has said Ghana spent 4.5 million dollars out of a budget of $6.3 million on this year’s AFCON tournament in Egypt.
He made the disclosure in Parliament Wednesday morning.
The Minister further disclosed the Normalization committee has been tasked to produce a comprehensive report on the poor performance of the Senior National team in the tournament.
According to him reforms will be made after the report is presented.
It comes after speculations that the country budgeted some $16 million for the tournament.
The Black Stars of Ghana had their worst showing at the continental competition since 2006.
Many Ghanaians have expressed anger at the refusal of the ministry to disclose the budget of the team before embarking on the trip to Egypt, where the competition was held.
Media speculations had pegged appearance fee for the players at $83,000 each.
This year’s tournament was won by Algeria after they beat Senegal at the final.
