Residents of Sanga in the Sagnarigu Municipality have rubbished government’s claims, it has constructed a dam for the community as part of its one village one dam project.
This follows claims by the Sagnarigu District Chief Executive, Iddrisu Mariam, that the dam has been constructed under the “one village one dam” project.
The Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly had produced a document capturing beneficiary communities of the “one village, one dam” project within its jurisdiction.
However, the residents upon hearing the information got furious and demanded that the Assembly remove Sanga from the list. According to the residents, the dam being claimed by the government already existed in the community and therefore cannot be labelled as one village, one dam project.
The residents also indicated that it was only the Member of Parliament for sagnarigu, A.B.A Fuseini who in 2017 dredged the dam to create more space to be able to contain more water.
Speaking to Starrfm.com.gh during a visit to the dam, Assembly Member for Garizegu-Chang Naayili electoral area, Sugri A Jibril said he was shocked when he heard the news that his community was a beneficiary of government’s one village, one dam project.
He said he drew the attention of the Sagnarigu Assembly that the Sanga dam was not part of the government’s project, but the Assembly failed to pay heed to him and insisting the claim.
When Starrfm.com.gh contacted the MP for the area, A.B.A Fuseini to confirm whether or not the dam was part of the one village, one dam project, he said: “The dam obviously cannot be part of the dugouts by the NPP government.”
According to ABA Fuseini, “The dam has been there several years before the Nana Addo led administration came to power.
A.B.A Fuseini cautioned government to “stop lying” in governance as it is an atrocious act against the people of this country.
