The Minority in Parliament is blaming the failure of government to release funds to GRIDco and ECG for the recent power outages being experienced across the country.
Speaking to journalists in parliament, Minority spokesperson on Mines and Energy, Adams Mutawakilo accused government of failing to use proceeds of the energy sector levy settle debts of GRIDco and other players under huge financial distress.
He said “this government is not serious with Ghanaians. One; GRIDco is suffering a lot of fault outages. If you take the various agencies, they are in financial distress. GRIDco for example, before we left office made a profit of GHC69m in 2016. It slides to a loss of GHC31m in 2017. A loss of GHC118m in 2018 and over 100 million in 2019.”
“Since this government came into power, all the power sector agencies have not been able to function, and once they are not able to function as expected, financially you can have discharges. Once they are not maintained you have power outages. You can have the installed capacity, but you will not have available capacity,” he highlighted.
