The Parliamentary Seven Special Committee probing a leaked tape on the removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has requested the National Security Minister, Kan Dapaah to appear before the Committee on Wednesday September 13, 2023.
The Chairman for Committee, Ata Akyea also added that the former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bugri Naabu will also have to reappear before the committee on Wednesday.
“The witnesses should come back tomorrow with their lawyers. The IGP should come with his lawyers, the Minister of National Security should show up with his lawyers and proceedings will continue,” he stated.
However, the Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has refuted all claims made against him by two senior Police Officers at the centre of a leaked tape on a plot to get him removed.
Appearing before the Parliamentary special committee probing the matter, the IGP disclosed the claims have caused him and his family pain and wondered why the committee had to summon him in the first place adding COP George Alex Mensah and Supt. George Asare told lies about him to hide their shame.
He took time to respond to the claims one after the other.
Earlier there were heated exchanges between chairman of the committee Samuel Atta Akyea and lawyer for the IGP Kwame Gyan who questioned the presence of the IGP accusers in the room.
After back and forth which knocked the chairman’s head against that of his vice James Agalga, the request to have COP Mensah and Supt. Asare removed was rejected.
