The Campaign Team of Kennedy Agyapong in the Eastern Region are demanding stakeholder’s engagement on the delegates album and security issues ahead of the Saturday November 4,2023 national delegates Congress.

The campaign team stresses the necessity of the Electoral Commission and the Police Service reviewing the final voters’ album and security arrangement for the election alongside the representatives of the various aspirants.

They aim to reach an agreement on the modalities as per the party’s constitution.

Expressing their surprise over the absence of this crucial meeting, the team notes that they have repeatedly drawn the attention of the Electoral Commission to its significance before the Election Day however not heeded.

Ernest Kwaku Boateng, the Deputy Communications Director for Team Ken in the Eastern Region, addressed the media regarding their concerns.

“By now the Electoral Commission and the Police as security should invite the leadership in every constituency of all the candidates. The Regional commander did a yooman’s job during the super delegates election he invited all the leaders of the 10 aspirants, EC and stakeholders and we went through the modalities. We went through guidelines and we agreed on it before the election.

But we haven’t seen anything like that. We have barely 48hours to cast out votes. I am very worried because this kind of internal election if you are not careful anything can happen. We want the police we want, the electoral commission to give an assurance so that we go through the guidelines. We have gone into an election where albums are changed in the next 24 hours. When the album is in the EC there is nothing that you can do. So we want to do some pre-preparation.”

He continued: “So we are using your media to just alert them. We have softcopy and we have hardcopy of the album we have gone through thoroughly so we know those that have traveled and those that are deceased. Currently, what we are for is the proxy. We just want to see the list to verify. We went to EC office that we have our album but waiting for their copy they told us they haven’t received. For three or four time we have engaged them but same story.”

Other Delegates and Polling agents for Kennedy Agyapong who spoke to the media expressed their confidence in their candidate’s prospects of emerging victorious on Saturday.

All is set for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to hold its presidential candidate election tomorrow.

This critical decision will determine the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 elections.

The flagbearer vote is keenly contested by four hopefuls: Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ,Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Former Mampong MP, Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The chosen candidate will go head-to-head with ex-President John Dramani Mahama, who secured the endorsement of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) earlier this year.

It’s important to note that this election is taking place as the NPP enters its eighth year under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo.

The party aims to overcome historical trends, as no political party in Ghana has secured more than two consecutive terms under the Fourth Republic, spanning from 1992 to the present.

This flagbearer decision holds significant implications for the NPP’s chances in the 2024 general election, and the nation’s political landscape is set to witness an intense contest in the months to come.
