A 20-year-old pregnant woman Judith Yaa Kumah is accusing a police detective of abusing her during an interrogation session which led to the loss of part of her ear.
Yaa Kumah, who gave the name of the abuser as Detective Corporal Clement Suputor said she was interrogated in connection with a robbery incident at Tema Community 8.
However, she was abused in the detective’s quest to get a confession out of her.
Judith on the 29th of February, 2024 found herself in what she describes as a nightmare she cannot forget.
Andrew Khartey, a legal practitioner who took her case Pro Bono is concerned about the disinterest in the case by the police despite attempts to get a response from them
Yaa Kumah’s mother, Mary Zokah wants the Inspector General of Police to intervene so that her daughter can get justice.
Judith Yaa Kumah is not the only victim of Police Brutality and coerced confessions. In December 2023, a high court in Accra ordered the police to pay GHc253,709 to Isaac Manu who was assaulted by a police man over the alleged stealing of a Kia truck.
Even with the order from the court, Isaac Manu is yet to get that compensation from the police.
