The National Democratic Congress Youth Organizer, Joseph Yammin has strongly denied accusations from the Precious Minerals Marketing Company that he forcibly seized gold bars being processed on behalf of the Bank of Ghana.
Yammin accused PMMC of peddling falsehoods in an attempt to cover up the true nature of the controversial gold bars seizure.
PMMC had earlier claimed that Yammin was responsible for the unauthorized seizure of gold bars, which they said were being processed for the Bank of Ghana.
However, according to Yammin, this account is entirely misleading. He maintains that the gold in question was not from the Bank of Ghana, as PMMC had initially suggested, but from a private refinery, and he criticized the company for changing its story to avoid scrutiny.
“PMMC informed us that they also handle exports on behalf of private refineries. Therefore, the gold in question did not come from the Bank of Ghana but from a private refinery, and PMMC facilitated its export. On that particular day, their role was limited to arranging security from the Bank of Ghana to escort the shipment safely to the airport for the transaction to proceed. When we asked the Bank of Ghana’s head of security if the consignment had originated from the Bank of Ghana, he categorically said no”.
Despite PMMC’s initial statement, which claimed the gold was processed on behalf of the Bank of Ghana, Yammin condemned the company’s shifting narrative.
” Why will you run away if what you are doing is right. Only for you to come and issue a statement contradicting what they did speaking differently from the exact thing,” he said.
