The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has cancelled the entire results of 653 candidates caught with mobile phones in the examination halls during the 2025 WASSCE for School Candidates.
This action follows investigations into reported examination irregularities by the Ghana Examinations Committee.
According to WAEC, “Cancellation of Entire Results of 653 candidates for possession of mobile phones in the examination halls” was approved at the Committee’s 40th meeting held on November 17, 2025.
The Council further revealed that 35 individuals, including 19 teachers, were found to have “engaged in acts that compromised the integrity of the examination,” with 19 already arraigned and convicted in court, while the remaining 16 await prosecution.
The incident has exposed weaknesses in Ghana’s education system, prompting stakeholders to call for stricter supervision in schools and comprehensive reforms to curb malpractice.
WAEC has also cautioned students to steer clear of fraudulent activities, emphasizing that results are secure and can be verified using its official results verification system.
