Former Black Stars player and U20 World Cup winner Emmanuel Agyemang Badu stated that Otto Addo can call on Dede Ayew as Ghana prepares for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
Dede, who has been a key figure for Ghana over the years, remains active at club level, but his national team call-up now rests solely in the hands of head coach Otto Addo.
Speaking on GHOne TV with Monica Bukari, Badu stressed that the final decision on calling up Andre Dede Ayew for the crucial matches rests entirely with Coach Otto Addo.
“I know the criteria they use to pick up national team players, those who are playing actively and doing well. So by that wherever he plays he demands to be in the national team, however it is the coaches who chooses the players, if the coach thinks this kind of games whether you’re playing well or not I don’t need you in this kind of games.
“It’s the national team not a personal team so in as much as Andre Ayew is doing well in his club all lies in the hands of the coach [Otto Addo] whether they need him at this particular time or not, or they will need him in the future it depends on the coach and whatever decisions he brings and thinks it’ll benefit the Ghanaians and the team we will support it”, he told GHOne TV.
Indeed, the Black Stars are in a period of transition, with a mix of young talent and experienced players fighting for a spot in the squad.
Ghana, who sit 2nd in Group I, will take on Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, at 7pm. The team will then travel to Morocco to play against Madagascar on March 24.
