The campaign team of Kennedy Agyapong has called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite all factions following the conclusion of the party’s presidential primaries.
The election, held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, saw Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won with 110,643 votes (56.48%) out of 195,901 valid votes .
His closest rival, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, garnered 46,554 votes (23.76%), while Dr. Bryan Acheampong secured 36,303 votes (18.53%). Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong received 1,999 votes (1.02%) and 402 votes (0.21%) respectively.
The results revealed that nearly 44% of delegates did not vote for Bawumia, highlighting the challenge he faces in consolidating support from the party base.
Analysts also suggest that this could impact his appeal to the broader electorate in the 2028 general elections.
Charles Forson, Tema Central MP and a member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, emphasized the need for collective focus going forward.
“That phase is past and gone. The new phase is for us all. I said earlier, to reposition the party, to reposition the flag bearer for December 7, 2028,” Forson said.
Acknowledging the sharp criticisms that often accompany intra-party contests, he stressed the importance of moving forward together.
“During intra-party contest, some other things will be said. However, post-contest, that is key. We’ll come together.”
Forson further highlighted the role of party executives in fostering cohesion, urging them to involve all members and work collaboratively.
“They should bring everybody on board, give everybody assigned duties. Let us work in synergy so that we can all bring out the very best for the party,” he added.
