President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Lusaka, Zambia, for a three-day state visit aimed at deepening Ghana–Zambia relations and expanding cooperation in trade, investment and regional integration.

The President arrived on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, where he was received by Zambia’s President, Hakainde Hichilema.

He was accompanied by the First Lady, Lordina Dramani Mahama. Ghana’s High Commissioner to Zambia, Madam Elizabeth Nyantakyi, was also at the airport to welcome him.

The visit, undertaken at the invitation of President Hichilema, will feature bilateral talks between the two leaders on matters of mutual interest, including strengthening diplomatic ties, boosting trade and investment, and exploring collaboration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

As part of the official programme, President Mahama is expected to lay a wreath at Embassy Park in Lusaka in honour of Zambia’s fallen heroes.

A major highlight of the trip will be President Mahama’s address to the National Assembly of Zambia, where he is expected to share Ghana’s vision for a more integrated and prosperous Africa.

The President will also meet members of the Ghanaian community in Lusaka to interact with Ghanaians living and working in Zambia.

In addition, a Ghana–Zambia Business Dialogue will be held and co-chaired by Presidents Mahama and Hichilema.

The forum will provide an opportunity for Ghana to showcase its digital technologies and fintech services to Zambian businesses and institutions, while promoting knowledge exchange and new economic partnerships.

President Mahama’s state visit forms part of his broader vision of an Africa that is “seamlessly connected through enhanced transport infrastructure, expanded trade linkages, and the free movement of people and goods.”

The President’s delegation includes the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; Executive Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama; Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to the President, Joyce Bawa Mogtari; Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations), Stan Xoese Dogbe.

The rest are Presidential Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu; Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu; Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George; and Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.
