Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has reaffirmed government’s commitment to building an inclusive and productive economy through President John Dramani Mahama’s flagship 24-Hour Economy initiative.
Delivering the keynote address at the Africa Growth and Opportunity – Research in Action (AGORA) Conference in Palermo, Italy, on Monday, November 3, 2025, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the 24-Hour Economy is at the heart of Ghana’s new economic direction.

She said, “When President Mahama returned to office, he set out a clear, practical vision — to make Ghana’s economy more productive, more competitive, and more inclusive. That vision is encapsulated in our flagship policy: the 24-Hour Economy framework.”

According to her, the policy is “not about any citizen working endlessly; it is about how we want to organize the economy to function continuously and efficiently, powered by stable energy, modern logistics, skilled labor, and digital networks.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang outlined that the initiative is structured around eight pillars – Grow24, Make24, Build24, Connect24, Fund24, Aspire24, Show24, and Go24 – each targeting a key sector such as agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure, finance, and tourism.
“This is economic reform built on a reorganization of time itself in service of growth and inclusion,” she emphasized.
The Vice President urged development partners and investors to support the vision, saying, “Our 24-Hour Economy is a promise: progress must never sleep, because opportunity must reach every community.”
