24-Hour Economy will generate maximum revenue – Beatrice Annan

Deputy spokesperson for the Mahama Campaign, Beatrice Annan Esq., has argued that Ghana’s current 8-hour economy is insufficient to address the nation’s debt challenges, advocating for a transition to a 24-hour economy to maximize revenue generation.

Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, madam Annan attributed Ghana’s current debt crisis to high government expenditure and excessive borrowing by the current administration, contrasting it with the NDC’s previous fiscal policies.

“We are where we are because when the NDC was in power, we created economic buffers with a $250 million sinking fund and a $250 million stabilization fund, but this government appointed 126 ministers because the economy could pay them then and borrowed,” she stated.

Madam Annan criticized the 8-hour economic structure, asserting that a shift to a 24-hour model is necessary to alleviate the debt burden. She emphasized the potential economic benefits of such a transition.

“It’s important we change our current 8-hour economy to a 24-hour economy so that businesses will be empowered, expand, and indirectly solve unemployment problems. We (NDC) will give tax exemptions to business owners which we have done before, to benefit the government and settle the problem in the long term,” she explained.

She revealed a key component of the NDC’s plan for a 24-hour economy which is a significant investment in security personnel.

“The beautiful aspect, which is the backbone of the 24-hour economy, is security; 25,000 security personnel will be recruited,” she concluded.
