400 youths graduate from GNPC’s skilled artisans programme

Four Hundred qualified artisans under the 2019 GNPC Foundation Skilled Artisans Project, have graduated at a ceremony held in Takoradi Jubilee park in the Western Region.

Drawn from the Western and Western North regions, the artisans were enrolled in the social livelihood empowerment programme implemented in collaboration with ASEDA Foundation.

The graduates excelled in various fields in plumbing, fashion, carpentry, auto-mechanics, general electrical, aluminum fabrication and among others. They were each handed a set of tools relevant to their skills to help set them up for their entrepreneurial journeys.

2019 GNPC Foundation

Registered to go through their National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) Examination in November, the trainees were also privileged to undergo soft skills training to expose them to the standards of business and entrepreneurship. The Foundation, with the support of the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), trained the artisans in course models such as Book-keeping, Marketing/ Sales, Branding, Customer Relations, Attitude to Work, Safety at Work and Entrepreneurship.

At the ceremony on Friday, December 13, the Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, Dominic Eduah, reiterated the Foundation’s core mandate to impact on the lives of Ghanaians through social intervention programmes and community engagements.

“Our CSR models are designed to help communities and individuals through Education& Training, the provision of physical and social infrastructure, as well as economic intervention projects such as this; aimed at positively impacting on the livelihoods of communities and young people,” he said.

2019 GNPC Foundation

Chairman of the Board of trustees GNPC Foundation, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, announced an upscale of the project to target 4,000 youths across Ghana in various skills training starting from 2020. He used the platform to advise young people take advantage of every opportunity they come by to build themselves up.

On his part, chairman for the occasion, Wilson Arthur, Waasa East District Chief Executive, thanked GNPC for their immense impact on enhancing livelihoods in the Western Region and across Ghana through the Foundation.

Also present at the ceremony  were the MCE of Sekondi -Takoradi Metro,  K.K Sam, Minister of State at the Presidency, Catherine Afeku, chiefs, representing the Western Regional House of Chiefs among other dignitaries.
