Black Stars job: Nana Akomea threatens one-man demonstration if GFA snubs Kwesi Appiah

Nana Akomea is demanding the return of Kwesi Appiah as Black Stars coach

Former Manager of the State Transport Company (STC), Nana Akomeah has threatened to embark on a one-man demonstration if the Ghana Football Association (GFA) fails to appoint a Ghanaian coach to head the senior national football team, Black Stars.

According to him, the current Black Stars can only be managed by a local coach and not an expatriate coach.

Coach Otto Addo who qualified the Black Stars for the World Cup was axed by the GFA after a disappointing run of matches.

The latest were a 5-1 thrashing by Austria and a 2-1 lost to a developing Germany team.

“The Ghana Football Association has parted ways with the head coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately. The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” a statement from the GFA read.

Sources within the GFA indicate that the search for a replacement is already underway, though no specific candidate has been settled upon.

Commenting on this on Accra-based Peace FM on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the politician threatened a one-man demonstration if a local coach is not appointed to head the team.

“They shouldn’t appoint any white coach, otherwise I will embark on a one-man demonstration…they should look for a Ghanaian coach…,” he said.

He pushed that Sudan’s national team coach, Kwesi Appiah, be appointed to lead the team to the mundial to be staged in USA, Mexico and Canada.

“They should appoint Kwesi Appiah, he is the Ghanaian coach that I think will fit in for this short period before the commencement of the World Cup…,” he said.

His opinion was backed by the Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt who also believed the Black Stars should be headed by a well-paid Ghanaian coach.
