President John Dramani Mahama has called for peace and unity among Ghanaians.
Speaking at the 68th Independence Day celebration at the Jubilee House on March 6, 2025, President Mahama in his poignant speech took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, highlighting Ghana’s rich history and its evolution into a robust democracy.
He emphasized the country’s remarkable progress in upholding democratic principles, citing the peaceful transfer of power and the protection of human rights.
Touching on the prolonged Bawku crisis, the President rallied stakeholders to resolve these conflicts and ensure peace and stability throughout the nation.
The President also acknowledged the frequent discourse on Ghana’s dependence on imports, donor aid, and IMF bailouts, warning that merely repeating these concerns without concrete action risks turning them into a cliché.
“…. the entire efficacy of this reminder lies not in just repeating it but in our willingness to take decisive action. Actions that will break the chain of dependency, not just the empty rhetoric of Africa that is beyond aid.”
“Proclaiming self-reliance while marching straight but into the hands of the donor agencies, begging bowl in hand, is meaningless,” he stated.
