The Minister of Sports and Recreation has inaugurated a Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the upcoming 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship, marking a major step in Ghana’s preparations to host the continental tournament.

The inauguration ceremony brought together key officials and stakeholders selected to oversee the planning and execution of the championship, which is expected to attract top armwrestlers from across Africa.

The 7-member Local Organizing Committee include:
Maame Afua Houadjeto (Mrs) – GTA
Dr. Kofi Addo-Agyekum, Kofikrom Pharnacy
ACI Gordon Saah, Immigration
Mr. Edwin Amankwah, Global Media
Mr. Gideon Hammond, NSA
Jessica Kwarteng, MoSR
Andre Ackah, AAG

Addressing the gathering, the sector Minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, praised the Ghana Armwrestling Federation for its consistent growth and impressive performances on both the African and global stage.

“The progress made by the Ghana Armwrestling Federation President Charles Osei Asibey over the years is commendable, and it reflects the commitment and vision of its leadership,” the Minister noted.

Kofi Adams charged the Local Organising Committee with the responsibility of coordinating all planning, logistics and operational activities to ensure Ghana delivers a world-class championship that meets international standards.

Responding on behalf of the committee, the Vice Chairperson of the LOC expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in them and formally accepted the responsibility. The Vice Chairperson spoke on behalf of the Chairperson and assured stakeholders of the committee’s readiness to deliver a successful event.

The 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship is expected to feature elite athletes from across the continent, competing for continental honours as well as crucial ranking points. These rankings play a significant role in qualification pathways, including towards the 2027 African Games.

Speaking to EIB Sports on the sidelines of the inauguration, President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey, expressed satisfaction with the formation of the Local Organising Committee and assured that Ghana will host and win.

“With the committee in place, we are confident that this championship will be historic for Ghana and further cement our position as a leading nation in African armwrestling,” he said.

The championship is anticipated to boost Ghana’s profile on the continental sports stage while providing local athletes with a rare opportunity to compete at the highest level on home soil.
