The organizers of World Cup 2022 in Qatar appear to be moving ahead of time as the first of the stadiums for the competition will officially be opened this Friday. This  means this edifice is  ready five years 186 days ahead of the kick-off of the World Cup 2022.

Information gathered from Al Jazeera is  that the new Khalifa Stadium will host the Emir Cup final between Al Sadd and Al Rayyan.

“We are pleased to announce that Khalifa International Stadium will host the final of the 2017 Emir Cup between Al Rayyan and Al Sadd on Friday evening,” said Qatar FA President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani.

The new stadium takes care of the peculiar high temperature of the region which is feared may have untold effects on the players.

It is equipped with sustainable cooling technology installed to keep the players and fans comfortable year round.

The stadium will be the first FIFA World Cup venue and the first stadium in the region to be lit by LED lighting, which is both more sustainable and more versatile than traditional lighting.

The stadium is designated to host quarterfinal matches of the 2022 World Cup.
