A former Minister for Trade and Industry, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has called on President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo to be tough and disband all vigilante groups affiliated to the New Patriotic Party.
According to him, the government has so far failed to deal with the growing spate of vigilantism across the country, adding that the president has lost control of the situation.
“He has not disbanded the groups; we need to hear the president say that that group does not exist,” Dr. Spio-Garbrah told Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday.
The former Ghanaian diplomat also stated that the country security agencies are frustrated in their efforts to deal with the several vigilante groups due to their political links.
He added that failure to strongly deal with those groups including the Delta and Invisible forces could eventually plunge Ghana into chaos.
Vigilante groups affiliated to the ruling NPP have been rampaging to register their displeasure over the appointment of some government appointees and demand for jobs.
They have succeeded in locking up state offices and chasing out officials.
The recent incident occurred in Techiman where some youth linked to the NPP locked up the NADMO office.
The Interior Minister Ambrose Dery on Tuesday October 31, directed police commanders across the nation to deal with persons affiliated to any vigilante group that perpetuate violence.
