The former advisor to ex-President John Mahama on corruption, Daniel Batidam, Tuesday issued a damning verdict on President Akufo-Addo’s quest to fight corruption in the country.
“…There is nothing, practically nothing happening as far as the fight against corruption is concerned,” opined Batidam in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM.
According to him, the government’s continuous wait on the establishment of the Special Prosecutor’s Office to commence in earnest in its pledge to fight corruption is misplaced.
“That is a way of dodging the problem and I am on record on this Special Prosecutor thing, I don’t get it. It is as simple as if Akufo-Addo’s Attorney General if he or she has evidence to proceed to court and begin prosecution,” he argued.
“Fighting corruption,” he said, “is not just about prosecution [and] that there are many other things spelt out clearly in the national anti-corruption action plan” that government should be doing in the area of prevention, education and also enforcement.
He continued “…for me what I am hearing people on both side of the political divide talk about [is not important] because they are just talking about allegations of corruption and prosecutions which is not happening. But there are a lot more other things that the government is supposed to be doing under the national corruption action plan while working toward the prosecution.”
