The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has intercepted a Nissan Navara (4×4) pickup being smuggled into Ghana.

A 5-member team of the GIS manning the Menuso Border Post of the GIS confiscated the vehicle being smuggled into the country via the Butabel Border with a suspicious registration number GE 4692-18 on 8 August at about 1: 30 am Kedjebi District of the Oti Region.

They are Assistant Inspector Raphael Amusu, Immigration Control Officer Harriscourt Adjetey, Assistant Immigration Control Officer ll David Consider Mackenzie, Assistant Immigration Control Officer ll Issah Mohammed and Recruit Officer David Lirasah.

According to Superintendent Daniel Offei commander of the Menuso Border Post, the interception happened at about 1:30 am, hours after he had detailed his officers for Patrols exercise along the unapproved routes of Poase, Ahamansu and Butabel enclave of the Border.

“Upon reaching the Butabel village close to the Border, the Patrol Team overheard unusual noise of a vehicle moving towards the Ghana part of the Border from Togo.T he sudden occurrence prompted their alertness into laying an ambush in wait to observe and confirm their suspicion,” He stressed.

The Regional Commander of the Oti Region Mr Vincent Ahulu (C/Supt.) commended the Menuso commander and the Team for their bravery and selflessness in serving the country.

Mr Ahulu after assuring officers of the Command’s support against crimes at the borders also re-echoed recently made ‘morale booster’ statement by Mr Kwame Asuah-Takyi Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, of Government intervention in the procurement of arms for the Service.

The vehicle has been transferred to the Regional Command of the  Customs Division (HO) for further investigations and possible prosecution.
